The biggest danger during tornado incidents is the flying debris that is being thrown from the high winds of the tornado. Protection from the high velocity projectiles is one of the keys to surviving the event. They are excellent for homes, mobile homes, camp grounds, and trailer parks. The RPS tornado shelter can save lives and reduce the chance of injury in these types of events.
The units come in a 10ft, 20ft, and 40ft unit. They can be equipped with items such as storage cabinets, insulation, emergency power, and many more options. Battery powered lights, coffee maker, and emergency radios are just a few of the options available. The units are sealed and water tight and if anchored properly can withstand wind speeds in excess of 150 MPH. The corrugated design of the walls can withstand flying debris moving at the same speed without any penetration of the side walls.
The door is designed with triple latches on the inside to resist coming open under high wind conditions. External vents run down the outside wall in four areas to eliminate the chance of rain or water from entering the unit but providing fresh air. Units can be used at other times for storage, get away room, den, etc. They can be air conditioned and heated to be used for other needs and functions.
The 40ft units are ideal for camp grounds and trailer parks and can easy hold up to 30 people with the internal bench seats and emergency radio. Other options can be added to the unit to make it functional for all situations.
Another issue after a tornado incident is a safe place to be during the rain and possible storms that may occur over the next 8-12 hours or more. The shelter can provide protection from the elements and if properly stocked may serve your needs for many days. Add a generator and other equipment and you can be in a safe shelter for days if needed.
